ACC2002: Border on Data Access Page Is Not Affected by Special Effects

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
In Microsoft Access, the borders of the controls on a data access page may not be affected by Special Effects (border style) settings. You may notice this behavior when you work with rectangles or labels.
This behavior occurs if you set the border color to black. After you do so, changes in the shading of border elements required for various border style settings are not implemented.
To work around this issue, change the setting of the
BorderColor property to any color other than black. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the data access page in Design view.
- On the View menu, click Properties if the Property dialog box is not already visible.
- On the Format tab, change the BorderColor property.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This behavior occurs when the
BorderColor property is set to black and the border style is set to one of the following:
Raised,
Sunken,
Etched, or
Ridged. The remaining border styles are displayed correctly. All border styles are displayed correctly with colors other than black.
Steps to Reproduce the Problem
- Start Access and open any database.
- Create a new data access page.
- On the Toolbox, select a Rectangle icon, and then place it on the page.
- On the Formatting toolbar, open the Special Effects list, and then click the Etched effect.
- Open the data access page in Page view.
Notice that the border of the rectangle has not changed in appearance as expected.
