"This Application Cannot Use This File as a Clip" Error Message When You Use Sony MovieShaker
This article was previously published under Q283397
When you try to use Sony MovieShaker version 1.2 to open an .avi file after you upgrade a Sony VAIO PCV-LX800 computer from Windows Millennium Edition (Me) to Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:
This application cannot use this file as a clip.
This error message also appears after an upgrade to Windows XP on a Sony VAIO PCV-R553DS computer that runs Windows 98 Second Edition and has MovieShaker version 1.1 installed.
This behavior occurs because this version of Sony MovieShaker is not compatible with Windows XP.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
