Search does not resolve localhost to the server name
This article was previously published under Q283912
If you create a content source for a URL that contains "localhost", (for example, http://localhost/site), and then create a site path rule that refers to the same site, but you use the actual server name instead of localhost, for example http://
servername/site/subdir, the site path rule may not be applied.
You may experience the same symptoms if you use the server name in the content source path, but use localhost in a site path rule.
This behavior is by design. The indexer processes URLs and not IP addresses. Localhost is a different URL than the one that contains the server name, and is treated differently for indexing purposes.
To resolve this issue, use either localhost or the server name consistently. If your server has multiple host names, you should always use the server name.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
