All Document Management Task Options Are Available Regardless of the Document State

This article was previously published under Q287238

SYMPTOMS

If you perform a bulk Document Management operation in a Web folder, you may receive an error message even though you have the correct permissions to perform the task. For example, if you perform a bulk checkout operation, you may receive the following error message even though you have sufficient permissions to do so:
Check-out failed for all documents. You may not have proper permissions, or the documents may not be in the correct state.

CAUSE

This situation occurs if the selected documents do not qualify for the chosen Document Management task. For example, an error message is displayed if you attempt to perform a checkout task on documents that are already checked out.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this behavior, make sure that the chosen documents qualify for the Document Management task that you are going to perform.

MORE INFORMATION

Document Management tasks are available only for documents in Enhanced folders. To view the available tasks, right-click the chosen documents; all of the Document Management options are displayed because the current state of the document is not checked.

For example, the option to check out documents is available even though some or all of the selected documents are checked out. If none of the selected documents qualify for the task that you are going to perform, you receive an "operation failed" error message for all of the documents. However, if only some of the selected documents do not qualify, the failure is reported for each document that does not qualify and the actual task is performed on the remaining documents.
