STS: "An Unexpected Error Has Occurred" When You Import Excel Worksheet List
This article was previously published under Q288228
When attempt to import a Microsoft Excel worksheet into a SharePoint team Web site, you receive the following error message:
An unexpected error has occurred (-2147215003)
Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications was not installed with Office XP.
SharePoint Team Services relies on Visual Basic for Applications, when Microsoft Excel is opened, to select the range of cells to import into the list.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then select Add/Remove Features.
- Under Office Shared Features, click Visual Basic for Applications, and then select Run all from my computer.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
