INFO: Event ID: 4131 ClusterService StartError

This article was previously published under Q288413

SUMMARY

Event ID: 4131
Source: Application Center
Description: Cluster service failed to start
Event Type: Error

The Application Center Cluster service failed to start.

Meaning: The Application Center Cluster Service failed to start.

Effect: If this is the cluster controller, no administrative actions, such as adding or removing members, synchronizing the cluster, or taking a member offline can be done until the problem that caused the error is fixed. Actions can still be done while connected to the cluster members directly.

If this is a cluster member, it will not receive cluster configuration updates, such as cluster IP address or cluster name changes, until the problem that caused the error is fixed.

Possible Causes and Solutions

Configuration store (metabase) corrupt: The store that Application Center uses for configuration data is corrupted or unavailable. Restart the IIS Admin service by using the Services utility in Administrative Tools. If this problem persists, contact your support personnel.

Stopped services: One or more of the services that Application Center depends on has stopped. Check the following services by using the Services utility in Control Panel:
  • Application Center Synchronization
  • Application Center Cluster
  • Application Center Log Query Helper
  • Application Center Name Resolution
  • IIS Admin
  • Remote Procedure Call
  • Windows Management Instrumentation
Other Solutions (listed in order of preference):
  1. Remove and then re-add the server (if this is a member).
  2. Designate another cluster controller (if this is the controller).
  3. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services:

APPLIES TO
