Description: Synchronization could not be enabled
Event Type: Error

The synchronization service was started but could not start synchronization. This server cannot be a cluster controller until the problem is fixed. Status is %Status%%StatusMessage%.

Meaning: The synchronization service was started but could not start synchronization.

Effect: If this is a cluster member, synchronization with the cluster controller will not continue until this problem is fixed. The rest of the cluster is not affected by this problem. If this is the cluster controller, no synchronization will happen on the cluster until this problem is fixed.

Possible Causes and Solutions

Stopped services: One or more of the services that Application Center depends upon stopped after synchronization was started. Check the following services by using the Services utility in Control Panel:
  • Application Center Synchronization
  • Application Center Cluster
  • Application Center Log Query Helper
  • Application Center Name Resolution
  • IIS Admin
  • Remote Procedure Call
  • Windows Management Instrumentation
Also investigate:
  • Network failure
  • Disk failure
Other Solutions (listed in order of preference):
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Use the Support Online link in the Events view.
