STS: Images Are Not Displayed After You Move HTML Pages Between Web Folders
This article was previously published under Q289319
When you save a Microsoft Office document as a Web page to a SharePoint Team Services document library and then move the file, the page appears incomplete. Only the basic structure of the page is displayed; elements such as headers and images are missing.
This behavior occurs only with HTML pages. The Office programs create a separate folder that contains the embedded objects and images. The folder is named
file name_Files, where
file name is the name that the file is saved as. When the page is initially saved to the SharePoint Team Services document library folder, the
file name_Files folder is saved in the same directory as the HTML page. When you move the file from the server, any image paths pointing to the
file name_Files folder are not updated.
In other words, the HTML code directs the browser to specify images in a specific location. If either the file or the folder is moved, the information is no longer valid. This prevents the images from being displayed.
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
- Save the page in the Office program's native format or the MIME-HTML (.mht) format.
When you save an Office document in either of these formats, the objects are embedded into the file. When the file is moved, the images are contained within the file, so they are moved as well. - Open the file in the program that created it, and then save it to the new SharePoint team Web site. This creates a new file name_Files directory on the new server for the file.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Browse to the SharePoint Team Services document library in which the file was initially saved.
- Click the Edit icon next to the file name.
- Click the Edit in Microsoft <Product> link at the top of the page.
- On the File menu, click Save as web page.
- Browse to the second document library, and then save the page.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
