Star Icon Is Not Displayed on Published Document in Portal

This article was previously published under Q291388

SYMPTOMS

If you view the contents of a document folder from the portal, the star icon may not be displayed on a published document in the folder. However, when you view the folder from a Web folders client, the star icon is displayed.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because publishing status and the associated icons are not displayed for any document until at least one document that you have privileges to view has been checked out and checked back in.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, check out a document in the folder, and then check it back in.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The publishing status for documents in enhanced folders, such as "checked in" and "pending approval", is represented in folder views by an icon. The star icon knows that a document has been approved and published, and is available to readers. Only users who are assigned the coordinator and author role can see the icons. Readers only see published documents; it is not necessary to indicate publishing status.
