How to Use Catutil.exe to Move the Property Store Log Files

SYMPTOMS

When you use Catutil.exe with the propstore -L parameters to change the location of the property store log files, the log files in the source location do not get deleted.

CAUSE

The log files are copied, not moved, to the new location.

RESOLUTION

After the log files are successfully copied to the new location, you be safely delete them from the source location.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Catutil.exe is an unsupported utility used to move the index files and property store, and also contains an integrity checker for the Search property store. Catutil.exe is not the Isinteg utility that is included with Microsoft Exchange Server, and the Isinteg utility should not be used against the Search property store. Catutil.exe is provided as is in the Support\Tools folder of the SharePoint Portal Server CD.
