Enable Creation of Personalized Dashboards from the Dashboard Site Home Page

SUMMARY

If you are a coordinator at the workspace level, you can enable users who are authors on the Dashboards folder in the workspace to create their own personal dashboard from the dashboard site home page.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable users to create their own personal dashboards, you can add the Personal Dashboards Web Part to the dashboard site page where you want to enable users to create their own dashboards.

IMPORTANT: If you enable users to create their own dashboards, those users can also create their own Web Parts that run script on the server. Because the server is a shared resource and the Web Part code can affect the server function (though only to the extent of the user's security limitations), examine server resources and security policy before you implement this feature.

To Enable Personal Dashboard Creation

  1. On the dashboard site, click the Management tab to open the Management dashboard, and then click the Content link at the top of the page.
  2. On the Content management page, click the Personal Dashboards Web Part, and then click Export.
  3. Choose a location on your hard disk to save the exported Web Part, and then click OK. The Web Part is saved as a .dwp file on your hard disk.
  4. Locate the home page or another page on the dashboard site where you want the Personal Dashboards Web Part to appear, click the Content link at the top of the page, and then click Import a Web Part file.
  5. On your hard disk, locate the .dwp file for the Personal Dashboards Web Part that you exported earlier, and then click OK. The Web Part appears on the dashboard site page you have selected.
  6. In the workspace, by using Web folders, right-click the Dashboards folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
  7. Enable appropriate users to create personal dashboards by assigning them as authors on the Dashboards folder, and then click OK.
Users who are authors or coordinators on the Dashboards folder can now create personal dashboards from the Personal Dashboards Web Part on the dashboard site.

To disable personal dashboard creation for a single user, change the user's role from author to reader on the Dashboards folder.

To disable personal dashboard creation for all users, remove the Personal Dashboards Web Part from the dashboard site, and change the appropriate users from authors to readers on the Dashboards folder.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
