You cannot open a shared Word document on a Web page based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a shared document on a Web page based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, a browser window opens. However, the document does not appear. You cannot view the document.

CAUSE

This problem occurs in the following situation:
  1. You try to open a subdocument of a master document that is stored on a Web folder.
  2. You click Open this file from its current location in the File Download dialog box that appears when you click the link to the document.
Master documents do not function correctly on Web sites based on SharePoint Team Services.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
