Data is unchanged when you change dates on calendar control in Microsoft Access
This article was previously published under Q294198
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
When you select a date on a Calendar control, the date is not updated in the field that is specified in the
ControlSource property of the Calendar control.
The Calendar control does not update the field that is specified in the
ControlSource property of the Calendar control until you either move the focus to another control or save the record.
Move the focus from the Calendar control to another control.
-or-
Save the record after you update the Calendar control by clicking
Save Record on the
Records Menu.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
Steps to reproduce the behavior
- Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
- Create a new form that is based on the Orders Table.
- On the Insert menu, click ActiveX Controls.
- Based on the version of Access that you are using, do one of the following:
- If you are using Access 2000, in theInsert ActiveX Control dialog box, click Calendar Control 9.0, and then click OK.
- If you are using Access 2002, in the Insert ActiveX Control dialog box, click Calendar Control 10.0, and then click OK.
- If you are using Access 2003, in the Insert ActiveX Control dialog box, click Calendar Control 11.0, and then click OK.
- If the property sheet for the Calendar control is not visible, on the View menu, click Properties.
- Change the ControlSource property of the Calendar control to OrderDate.
- If the field list is not visible, click Field List on the View menu. Drag the OrderDate field from the field list to the form. This creates a text box with OrderDate as the control source.
- On the View menu, click Form. Note that the Calendar control and the text box show the same date.
- Click multiple dates in the Calendar control.
Note that your subsequent selections do not update the date value shown in the text box until you move the focus off the Calendar control by clicking in the text box.
