Error Message When You Index Office Attachment in Lotus Notes Document: Error Fetching URL (80042403)

SYMPTOMS

When you index Lotus Notes documents that contain Microsoft Office attachments, the following error may be logged for every document in the gatherer log:
Error fetching URL (80042403) - Failed to load document into IFilter. Possibly caused by bad document or bad IFilter.)
You can find the attachment file name (for example, File.doc) in searches, but you cannot find any of the document text.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the default content access account is not a member of the local administrators group on the server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, either add the default content access account to the local administrators group or change the default content access account to an account that is already a local administrator.

To add the default content access account to the local administrators group, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.
  3. Under System Tools, expand Local Users and Groups.
  4. Open the Groups folder, and then double-click Administrators.
  5. Click Add, and then select the default content access account.
To change the default content access account for the server, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools,and then double-click SharePoint Portal Server Administration.
  3. Right-click the server name in the tree view.
  4. Click the Accounts tab.
  5. Select Default Content Access Account, and then click configure.
  6. Enter the account information.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
