SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to link tables to the current Microsoft Access project (.adp), the Select Database and Table screen in the Data Connection Wizard only allows you to select a database, and not a table, as the screen title implies. In addition, the vertical and horizontal scroll bars do not work.

RESOLUTION

To return to the Link Table Wizard, complete the Data Connection Wizard, without choosing a table. Access will display a list of tables and views to which you can link.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Start Microsoft Access.
  2. On the File menu, click New. Create a new Microsoft Access Project (.adp) that is connected to existing data. For example, connect to the Northwind sample database.
  3. On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Link Tables.
  4. In the introductory screen of the Link Table Wizard, click Linked Server, and then click Next.
  5. In the Select Data Source dialog box, double-click +New SQL Server Connection.odc to start the Data Connection Wizard.
  6. In the Connect to Database Server screen of the Data Connection Wizard, specify a valid Microsoft SQL Server name and the appropriate logon credentials. Click Next.
  7. In the Select Database and Table screen, select the Northwind sample database in the combo box.

After you select a database, notice that the lower part of this screen displays all tables and views in the selected database. However, the vertical and horizontal scroll bars do not allow you to scroll in the expected direction. In addition, this screen only allows you to select a database, and not a database and table, as the screen title suggests.
