Privacy Icon Is Displayed in the Status Bar Even Though Privacy Settings Allow Cookies
This article was previously published under Q298636
When you visit a Web site, the
Privacy icon is displayed in the Microsoft Internet Explorer status bar even though your privacy settings are set to allow cookies from this Web site and all cookies are already set or read.
This behavior may occur if the Web site content is retrieved from the Temporary Internet Files folder and it has a history of privacy violations.
This behavior may occur under the following conditions:
- You visit a Web site, and a cookie is restricted based on your privacy settings.
- You change your privacy settings so that the cookie is no longer restricted.
- You visit the Web site again, but the content is retrieved from your Temporary Internet Files folder.
To work around this behavior, press F5 to refresh the Web page, or delete the contents of your Temporary Internet Files folder. To delete the contents of your Temporary Internet Files folder:
- On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
- On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files, and then click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
- Click the Refresh button at the top of the browser to ensure that you are viewing the latest version of the current page.
This behavior is by design.
The
Privacy icon appears in the status bar each time that a cookie is restricted based on your privacy settings or if a cached file is retrieved from the Temporary Internet Files folder that has a history of privacy violations.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
