Cannot Find Indexed File Share Documents When You Search the Workspace Index
This article was previously published under Q298958
You cannot find indexed file share documents when you search the workspace index. You have verified that you are able to view the documents when connecting to the file share.
The file share documents are secured by local machine groups, or by a domain local group in a separate domain.
If you are indexing content inside the domain of the SharePoint Portal Server computer, use domain local, global or universal groups. If you are indexing content in a separate domain, use domain global or universal groups.
The workspace index stores access control lists (ACLs) associated with documents. The ACLs are used to validate security during queries. Documents that the searching user does not have validated access to are filtered out of the search results. Search cannot validate permissions when content is secured with local machine groups or when the content resides in a separate domain and is secured using a domain local group (a group that is valid only within its domain). Search also does not store file share permissions, only the ACLs on the documents themselves.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
