Some Internet Explorer Files Are Listed as Not Present in the System Information Tool
This article was previously published under Q298988
When you run the System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe), some Internet Explorer files are listed in the display pane as "File not present". Also, "Not available" is displayed for the version, size, and date under
File Versions in the
Internet Explorer branch. These files include: Enhsig.dll, Iemigrat.dll, Msoss.dll, Rsasig.dll, Shdoc401.dll, Wsock.vxd, and Wsock32n.dll.
This problem can occur because these files are not installed in Windows 2000. Therefore, they are listed as not present in the System Information tool.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
Internet Explorer version 5.01 and later includes a new extension (Ieinfo5.ocx) for the System Information utility (Msinfo32.exe). This new extension adds the relevant technical information about Internet Explorer to the System Information tool.
To view the information that is provided by this new extension:
- Click Start, click Run, type: msinfo32.exe, and then click OK.
- After the Msinfo32.exe tool opens, double-click the Internet Explorer branch to expand it.
Internet Explorer 5.01 and later does not install the Msinfo32.exe tool. The extension (Ieinfo5.ocx) is installed and registered, but the information that it provides can be viewed only on computers that have the Msinfo32.exe tool installed. The operating systems that include this tool are: Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows 2000, and computers that have Microsoft Office 2000 or later installed.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, when used with:

- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
