The 3D Text or the 3D Flying Objects screen saver may display a blank screen in Windows XP
This article was previously published under Q302587
When you run either the 3D Text or
the 3D Flying Objects screen saver on Windows XP, you may receive
a blank black screen instead of the screen saver that you selected. Additionally,
when you run the 3D Flying Objects screen saver and you choose the
Windows flag, the flag may not show the words "Windows XP," and
it will lose its 3D texture. However, you can
return to the desktop.
This problem may occur when you use the Multimon.exe
program with any Direct 3D-capable video adapter such as a G200, G300, or G400 video adapter.
To work around this problem, disable
the display on the monitor that is not the primary monitor.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
The
condition that is described in the Symptoms section has been reported at several
screen resolutions in a multi-mon configuration, including 640x480 and 1280x1024 with
a Matrox G200 and an Nvidia Quadro 2x.
To adjust
the display settings on the screen saver, follow these steps:
- Click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- Click the Screen Saver tab.
- Click Settings.
- Click Display Settings.
- Use the drop-down menu in the Display Settings section to select a display setting that has a resolution higher
than 640x480.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
