SUMMARY

This article describes how to move files between document libraries in a Web site based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft by using a Web folder or a Network Place.

MORE INFORMATION

Create a Web Folder or Network Place Pointer

Before you move files between document libraries in a SharePoint team Web site, create a Web folder or Network Place that points to the team Web site. To do this, use the appropriate method for your operating system.

In Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

  1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click My Computer.
  2. Double-click Web Folders.
  3. Double-click Add Web Folder.
  4. In the Type the location to add box, type the HTTP:// address for the SharePoint team Web site.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Enter the name for this Web Folder box, type a name to reference your new Web folder.
  7. Click Finish.

In Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows XP

  1. On your Windows Desktop, double-click My Network Places.
  2. Double-click Add Network Place.
  3. In the Type the location of the Network Place box, type the HTTP:// address for the SharePoint team Web site.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Enter a name for this Network Place box, type a name to reference your new Network Place.
  6. Click Finish.

Move the Files

After creating the Web folder or Network Place, move the files. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click the Web folder or Network Place you created in the "Create the Web Folder or Network Place Pointer" section earlier in this article.
  2. If you are prompted to enter a user name and password, type the information requested.
  3. Open the document library that contains the files you want to move.
  4. Select the files and folders you want to move.

NOTE: Do not move the Forms folder. This folder is created by SharePoint Team Services for each document library.
  5. Right-click the selection and then click Copy on the menu that appears.
  6. Open the document library where you want to place the files.
  7. Right-click in the document library, and then click Paste on the menu that appears.
When you refresh the document library in your Web browser, the recently added files will appear.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
