The Privacy Settings May Be Displayed As Custom After You Import Settings For Non-Internet Zones Only
This article was previously published under Q302880
In Internet Explorer, if a Privacy Preferences (.xml) file is imported without a "p3pCookiePolicy" element that specifies zone="Internet", the
Privacy tab may incorrectly display "Custom (Advanced or imported settings)" as its setting.
To work around this problem, click
OK to close the
Internet Options dialog box, and then reopen the
Internet Options dialog box to make the slider available again. You can also click
Default to return the slider, but that step resets your privacy settings for the Internet zone to "Medium", which can make you set your privacy settings back to the level they had been before you imported the settings.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
When you use the slider, the privacy preferences that you specify on the
Privacy tab on the
Internet Options dialog box affect only the Internet zone.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
