FP2002: Navigation Bar Does Not Appear, Error on Server Console

SYMPTOMS

If you view a Web page that contains the VINavBar component in a Web browser, the following message appears on the page:
[FrontPage VINavBar Component]
In Microsoft Frontpage 2002, if you click Preview in Browser on the File menu, the following message appears:
Visual InterDev Navigation Bar
In some cases, the following error message may appear on the server console:
OLE Channel WND: Inetinfo.exe - entry point not found.

The procedure entry point ?boundscheck@pvstructurestorenodevvector@@ivexi@z could not be located in the dynamic link library fp5awel.dll.

CAUSE

The VINavBar component is not supported when using the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions.

RESOLUTION

Install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) on the the server that is running the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions.

WORKAROUND

To prevent these errors when you work with or view your Web page, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Create a Navigation Bar Structure in Your FrontPage Web

  1. Open your Web page.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Navigation.

    The Insert Web Component dialog box appears.
  3. In the Component type list, click Link Bars. In the Choose a bar type list, click the type of navigation bar you want and click Next.
  4. Click Finish.
For more information about how to create a navigation structure in a FrontPage Web, click Microsoft FrontPage Help on the Help menu, type navigation in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.

Method 2: Rename the Vinavbar Folder

Rename the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\50\Bots\Vinavbar
-to-
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\50\Bots\Vinavbarold

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
