IP Address Is Unknown and You Cannot Connect to the Computer for NetMeeting
This article was previously published under Q306055
When you try to place a NetMeeting call, but you do not know the current Internet Protocol (IP) address for the computer that you are trying to call, no connection is established for the call.
This behavior occurs because the current IP address is required to establish a connection to the other computer. If the computer that you are trying to call has a dynamic IP address, the IP address can change each time it connects to the Internet.
To resolve this behavior, obtain the current IP address of the computer that you are trying to call, and then place the call. To do this, follow these steps:
- By telephone or by e-mail, ask the person that you are trying to contact to give you the correct IP address. To find the IP address, the other person needs to:
- Start NetMeeting on the computer that you are trying to reach, and then click Help.
- Click About Windows NetMeeting. The current IP address for the computer appears in the lower left corner of the About Windows NetMeeting box.
- Give you the IP address by telephone or by e-mail.
- At your own computer, place the NetMeeting call by typing the IP address in the list box at the top of the window, and then click the Place Call icon.
To work around this issue, use MSN Messenger to send a NetMeeting invitation.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
