Excel stops responding when you create PivotTable from a very large OLAP cube
This article was previously published under Q307787
When you attempt to build a PivotTable from a very large
Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube, Microsoft Excel may use all of the
available system resources and stop responding.
This problem may occur when all of the following conditions
are true:
- The OLAP cube contains a calculated member.
- The Include Hidden Items in Totals button
on the PivotTable toolbar is not selected.
- The query that you used to create the OLAP cube uses at
least one NONEMPTY clause.
To resolve this problem, select the
Include Hidden
Items in Totals button on the
PivotTable toolbar.
To temporarily work around this problem, you
can redesign the OLAP cube to use multiple hierarchies within your dimensions,
instead of creating separate dimensions for each hierarchy. Doing so improves
the efficiency of the query, but may not completely resolve the
problem.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
