When You Use ARROW Keys to Adjust Volume on the Media Bar, the Volume Does Not Change as Expected

SYMPTOMS

When you use the media bar to adjust the audio volume in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, the volume controls may exhibit unexpected behavior. For example, when you click the volume bar, and then use the LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys to move the slider on the volume bar to the left and the right (accordingly) to change the volume of the audio output, the volume does not change and the slider is incorrectly redrawn. However, the change in the position of the slider erroneously indicates a change in volume.

NOTE: When you use the mouse to move the slider on the volume bar, the volume changes as expected.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the mouse to click and drag the slider on the volume bar.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
