This article was previously published under Q308389
You may not be able to create a workspace, and you may receive the following error message:
Object or data matching the name, range, or selection criteria was not found within the scope of this operation.
The following error message may be logged in the Application event log:
Event ID: 20485
Source: SharePoint Portal Server
Category: None
Type: Error
Description: Workspace Creation - An index could not be created. Object or data matching the name, range, or selection criteria was not found within the scope of this operation.
This issue can occur if the
IP Address list specifies the IP address in the properties of the default Web site or if a host header is added for the site.
To resolve this issue:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
- Right-click the Default Web Site.
- Open the properties of the default Web site.
- Click the Web Site tab, and then click (All Unassigned) in the IP Address list.
- Click OK.
- Stop and then start the default Web site.
IMPORTANT: The requirement for the
(All Unassigned) option is for the default Web site only. For any additional Web sites that you create to access a SharePoint Portal Server workspace, use a specific IP address, not the
(All Unassigned) option.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
