Pocket PC 2002 Stops Responding When SHGetFileInfo Is Called Immediately After a Reset

Article ID: 311277 - View products that this article applies to.
This article was previously published under Q311277

SYMPTOMS

When the Today plug-in uses a SHGetFileInfo call immediately after a reset, your device may stop responding (hang). After this occurs, you must reset your device, and this may result in the loss of all data on your device.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because if your device is not fully initialized after a reset, the SHGetFileInfo call can cause the device to stop responding.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue only applies to a device that is running the Pocket PC 2002 operating system. Devices that are running Pocket PC 2000 or earlier do not exhibit this behavior.

SHGetFileInfo should not be called during a reset initialization process. The Today plug-in should defer such action until the device is known to be done with the reset initialization.
