MacOFFX: Out of Disk Space Error Message When You Try to Install Items from the Value Pack
This article was previously published under Q312239
When you attempt to install items from the Value Pack, you may receive the following error message
The selected disk named "hard disk" does not have enough free space. Please return to the desktop and free up more disk space.
where
hard disk is the name of your computer's hard disk.
This problem can occur for any of the following reasons:
- The disk that contains the operating system is out of space.
- The disk that contains the operating system does not contain enough free space to install the additional files.
- Office v. X was installed on a hard disk that does not contain the active System Folder.
To resolve this problem, install Office v. X and the Value Pack items on the hard disk that contains the active System Folder. If this disk does not have enough free space, remove or delete items until there is enough free space to complete the installation.
To work around this problem, you can manually install the Value Pack items on a secondary hard disk.
To install the Value Pack items manually, follow these steps:
- Open the Value Pack folder on the Office v. X CD-ROM.
- Drag each item that you want to the correct location on the hard disk that contains Office v. X.
The following table lists the Value Pack items and where they should be placed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
The Value Pack items can enhance your Office v. X experience, but they are not required for the Office v. X programs to function. These items do not require any additional installation after they are placed into the correct location and will automatically register themselves the first time that you start them.
For more information about the items that are installed from the Value Pack and their functions, please review the Guide to the Value Pack file, which is available in the Value Pack on the Office v. X CD.
