PRB: Orchestration Designer Transaction Properties Page Closes Slowly

This article was previously published under Q312716

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

In BizTalk Orchestration Designer, if you follow these steps:
  1. Right-click a transaction shape, and then click Properties.Click Add Code.Under On Failure, select the Enabled check box.Click OK.
  2. Click Add Code.Under On Failure, select the Enabled check box.Click OK.
  3. Under On Failure, select the Enabled check box.Click OK.
  4. Click OK.
the Transaction Properties dialog box may take an unusually long time to close.

This problem only occurs if Orchestration Designer is running on a BizTalk Server computer in which Microsoft Visio 2002 is installed.

CAUSE

BizTalk Server runs a Visio add-on that creates a new Visio page after the user enables On Failure and clicks OK in the Transaction Properties dialog box. This add-on creates the new page, adds some shapes, and then returns the view to the previous page.

The Transaction Properties dialog box closes slowly on some computers because Visio 2002 is trying to obtain information about the current default printer after it receives the command to create a new page. Visio 2002 can take a long time to obtain information about the default printer if the default printer is a network printer, and if the network connection to that printer is slow.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the default printer to a local printer or to a network printer that has a fast network connection to the BizTalk computer.
