SUMMARY

You can create a system policy that disables important features of the Web toolbar that is found in most Office XP programs. This action effectively prevents users from accessing the Internet by using the Web toolbar.

The Web toolbar in most Office XP programs works much like the basic Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar, allowing users to type Web addresses, maintain a favorites list, and more. You can disable access to many of the features on the Web toolbar by creating a system policy.

Disable the Web Toolbar Features

  1. In the System Policy Editor, double-click the Default User icon.
  2. Select the node for the specific Office XP program (Microsoft Excel 2002, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, or Microsoft Access 2002), and then select and expand the Disable items in user interface node.
  3. Select and expand the Predefined node.
  4. Select the Disable command bar buttons and menu items check box.
  5. Under Settings for Disable command bar buttons and menu items, select the check box for each feature that you want to disable. All of the components of the Web toolbar begin with Web |. You can disable the following Web toolbar components:
    • Web | Refresh Current Page
    • Web | Start Page
    • Web | Search the Web
    • Web | Favorites
    • Web | Go
    • Web | Address

Microsoft Outlook 2002

To disable Web toolbar features in Outlook 2002, follow these steps:
  1. In the System Policy Editor, double-click the Default User icon.
  2. Select Microsoft Outlook 2002, and then expand the Disable items in user interface node.
    • Web | Address

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other.
