INFO: The stateNetworkTimeout Attribute Is Available in the <sessionState> Configuration

This article was previously published under Q316448

SUMMARY

You can configure an additional attribute named stateNetworkTimeout in the ASP.NET application session state settings.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use StateServer mode in session state attributes, you can specify an additional attribute, stateNetworkTimeout. This attribute specifies the number of seconds that a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network request can be idle before the request times out.

This is useful if your Web server or your state server is under heavy stress and needs more time to complete network operations. If a Web server or a state server is under stress and cannot complete the task on time, event ID 1072 and event ID 1076 may be logged in the event log.

You can specify the stateNetworkTimeout attribute in the Machine.config file or in the Web.config file of an application. For example, use the following code to include this attribute:
<sessionState
  stateNetworkTimeout="15"
/>

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
