When you use antivirus software to scan the files that make up Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and the Microsoft Exchange Server information store that SharePoint Portal Server uses to store files for the portal, you may receive error messages similar to (but not limited to) the following:
Check-Out Error
The document could not be checked out, because of the error (0x80040e92):
No description was found for this error.
-or-
Check-In Error
The document you are attempting to check in is currently in use.
This behavior can occur because antivirus software frequently locks files while scanning files and folders, and this may produce a wide range of unpredictable results for SharePoint Portal Server.
To resolve this behavior, configure your antivirus software so that it does not scan the following files and folders:
- Drive:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server
- Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Storage System
Where
Drive: is the drive letter where you installed SharePoint Portal Server.
Note Typically, this is drive C.
