Windows Services for UNIX NISMAP ADD Command Not Executed Successfully with Entry That Starts with Slash Mark

This article was previously published under Q323474

SYMPTOMS

If you use the NISMAP ADD command to add an entry with a leading forward slash, the command may not be executed successfully, and you receive an "invalid option" error message.

CAUSE

The command recognizes the forward slash character as a parameter designator. If the entry that you add starts with the forward slash character, the entry is interpreted as a parameter designator. The result is the "invalid option" error message.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem is most typical when you add entries intended for "auto.home" or "auto.master" Network Information Service (NIS) maps. The following is an example of an "auto.master" NIS map:
+auto_master
/net -hosts -nosuid
/home auto_home

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Create a text file with the information to be added in map format, as in the "More Information" section of this article.
  2. Use the NIS2AD command-line NIS migration tool or the NIS Migration Wizard to migrate the data into Active Directory.
For more information about how to use the NIS Migration Wizard or the NIS2AD command-line NIS migration tool, see the Windows Services for UNIX Help File.
