XADM: "CMapiSession::CreateEMSPSTProfile" Error Message When You Use Exmerge to Import Data to Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q323671
When you run the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge program (Exmerge.exe) to move mailbox data from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, you may receive the following errors in the Exmerge.log file when you try to import the data to Exchange 2000 Server:
[15:34:46] Entered Routine: (CMapiSession::CreateEMSPSTProfile)
[15:34:46] Error configuring message service (MSPST MS) (UNKNOWN ERROR)
(CMapiSession::CreateEMSPSTProfile)
This behavior may occur if the personal folder files (.pst) are marked as Read-only.
To resolve this behavior, remove the Read-only attribute from the .pst files, and then run Exmerge. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start Windows Explorer, and locate the .pst files.
- Right-click each .pst file that contains the data that you want to import, and then click Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
