HOW TO: Use the Remove Office Tool to Remove Office v. X for Mac from Your Computer
IMPORTANT: Before you remove Microsoft Office v. X for Mac, you must move any personal files from the Microsoft Office X folder. Also, you must back up any identities that are stored in the Microsoft User Data folder, which is found in the Documents folder. This includes any files that you created and saved in or placed in the Microsoft Office X folder. You must do this so that you do not delete your personal files and e-mail messages.
To manually remove Microsoft Office v. X for Mac from your computer, locate and move the Microsoft Office v. X for Mac files and folders to the Trash. To do this, follow these steps:
NOTE: In the following steps, <username> is the name of the local user's
Home folder.
- Open the Hard Drive:Applications folder and move the Microsoft Office X folder to the Trash. The Microsoft Office X folder also contains the following files and folders, which will also be removed:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Entourage
Welcome
MSN Messenger
Office (folder)
Read Me (folder)
Getting Started Book.pdf
Clipart (folder)
Shared Applications (folder)
Templates (folder)
- Open the Hard Drive:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences:Microsoft folder, and then move the following files to the Trash:
- Carbon Registration Database
- Custom Dictionary
- Entourage Preferences
- Entourage Settings (10)
- Excel Keyboard Shortcuts
- Excel Settings (10)
- Excel Toolbars (10)
- Microsoft Component Preferences
- Microsoft Office Settings (10)
- MS Office ACL [English}
- Office Font Cache (10)
- Office Registration Cache X
- Office X First Run
- PowerPoint Settings (10)
- Proofing Tool Preferences
- Word Font Substitutes
- Word Settings (10)
- Open the Hard Drive:Users:<username>:Documents:Microsoft User Data folder, and then follow these steps:
- Move the Entourage Script Menu Items folder to the Trash.
When you move the Entourage Script Menu Items folder to the Trash, you also automatically remove the following files:
About this Menu
Create Event from Message\cE
Create Note from Message\cN
Create Task from Message\cT
Insert Text File
Save Selection
- Move the Entourage Sound Sets folder to the Trash.
When you move the Entourage Sound Sets folder to the Trash, you also automatically remove the following file:
Microsoft Sound Set
- Move the Entourage Temp folder to the Trash.
By default, the Entourage Temp folder is empty. - Move the Office X Identities folder to the Trash.
When you move the Office X Identities folder to the Trash, you also automatically remove the following files and folder:
Newsgroup Cache
Main Identity (folder). The Main Identity folder also contains the following files:
Database
Database Cache
Mailing Lists
Rules
Signatures
- Move the Saved Attachments folder to the Trash.
By default, the Saved Attachments folder is empty.
- On the Finder menu, click Empty Trash.
