BUG: .NET Framework controls do not appear when you try to print a document in Internet Explorer

This article was previously published under Q330445

SYMPTOMS

When you print a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer, and when the Web page contains one or more Microsoft .NET Framework Windows form controls, you may find that that the .NET controls are missing from the Web page. The .NET controls are also missing from the Web page in Internet Explorer print preview.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because .NET controls are rendered by using GDI+, and GDI+ cannot render to metafiles. When you print a document that contains a .NET control in Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer renders the Web page to a metafile and then it prints the metafile. However, because GDI+ cannot render to metafiles, the .NET controls are missing when you print or you view the Web page in print preview.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

RESOLUTION
