Text does not appear or is displayed incorrectly when you try to preview an Office document as an HTML file in Office 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you try to preview an Office 2003 document as an HTML file, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • Lines of text do not appear.
  • Lines of text overlap with other lines of text.
  • The first character in the body of the Web page does not appear.
  • The bulleted list items appear on the line below the corresponding bullet point.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if both the following conditions are true:
  • Your HTML document contains one or more of the following Unicode languages:
    • Syriac
    • Urdu
    • Farsi
    • Arabic
    • Hindi
  • There are two different versions of the Usp10.dll file on your computer.

Note There are two different copies of the Usp10.dll file on your computer, one copy that is included with Office and one copy that is included with your operating system. When you install Office 2003, the Office copy of the file is updated, but the Microsoft Windows copy of the file is not. The Windows copy of the file is only updated when you install the most recent service pack for your operating system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the most recent service pack for your operating system. For more information about how to download and install the most recent service pack for your operating system, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
