SYMPTOMS

When you try to start a Microsoft Office 2003 program or try to visit the Microsoft Office Update Web site after you install one of the Microsoft Windows XP service pack updates, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Additionally, when you try to install Office 2003, you may receive the following error message:

Additionally, this behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • You reinstall Windows XP on the computer.
  • You perform a repair of Windows XP on the computer.

I had just unistalled XP SP1a express, because I suspected it might be the cause of a BSOD I received, "Page fault in nonpaged area"(I was hoping that it was, rather...). I rebooted. My office 2003 apps would not start, The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application. I reinstalled SP1 express. No Change. I'm using Win2K now, planning on formatting and reinstalling XP
