You receive error messages when you try to install Office 2003 or use an Office 2003 program
When you try to start a Microsoft Office 2003 program or try to visit the Microsoft Office Update Web site after
you install one of the Microsoft Windows XP service pack updates, you may receive an error
message that is similar to the following:
The application
failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the
application.
Additionally, when you try to install Office 2003, you may receive the following error message:
Setup has detected an incomplete
Windows XP Service Pack installation on your
computer. Office will not run correctly until this update has been completed.
Visit Windows Update (<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com>) to download and install
the latest Service Pack.
However, when you visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site and scan for the required updates, they are not any updates listed.
This behavior may occur because of one of the following reasons:
- You have an incomplete Windows XP service pack installation.
- You do not restart the computer
when you are prompted to after the Windows XP service pack installation process is
complete.
- You installed Office 2003 and a Windows XP service pack update on the computer.
Additionally, this behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:
- You upgrade the Microsoft Windows XP Home-based computer to Microsoft Windows XP
Professional.
- You reinstall Windows XP on the computer.
- You perform a repair of Windows XP on the computer.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Restart the computer, and then install or start
the Office 2003 programs. Generally, you should restart when youreceive a prompt to do this after you install any product or update.
Method 2
Install the latest Windows XP service pack from the following Microsoft Windows update Web site:
If you cannot successfully install the latest Windows XP service pack or if the Web site reports an error, visit the following Web site for information about how to troubleshoot Windows update issues:
Method 3

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
