You receive a file not found error message when you create a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 virtual server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a new SharePoint Portal Server 2003 virtual server after you run the DCpromo.exe file, you receive the following error message:
File or assembly name abxmcvyl.dll, or one of its dependencies, was not found.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because the network service account does not have permissions to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. The network service account must have Read and Write permissions to create the temporary Abxmcvyl.dll file in the Temp folder.

RESOLUTION

Install SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on a computer that has been configured as a domain controller. Running DCPromo.exe after the installation of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is not a supported configuration and may cause problems with your SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
