You receive an error message and Microsoft Search restarts slowly after you stop the service on a SharePoint Portal Server 2003
When you restart the Microsoft Search service (Mssearch.exe) on a computer running SharePoint Portal Server, it may take a long time for the Microsoft Search service to restart (10 minutes or more). For example, when you restart the Microsoft Search service, and then perform a search of the SharePoint Portal Server site, no results are returned. Additionally, you receive the following error message in your Web browser window:
No results are available due to a network failure. Please contact the portal's administrator.
This issue may occur when you stop the Mssearch.exe process by using the
taskkill command, and then restart the Microsoft Search service.
To work around this issue, shut down the computer running SharePoint Portal Server, and then restart the computer.
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
You can use the workaround described earlier in the "Workaround" section of this article in other situations when the Microsoft Search service takes a long time to start.

correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're

edits), please consult a professional.
