You receive a “You cannot copy or move a thicket file†error message and you cannot rename the Windows SharePoint Services Default.aspx Web page in FrontPage 2003
When you try to rename the Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services Web site home page, default.aspx, by using Microsoft Office FrontPage
2003, you receive the following error message:
Server
error: You cannot copy or move a thicket file. To change the file name or
create a copy of the file, open the file and save as to a new name.
This behavior occurs if both the following conditions exist:
- You modify the home page by using FrontPage 2003, and then
save your changes.
-and- - You try to rename the home page in FrontPage
2003.
When you save your changes to the Windows SharePoint Services
home page after you modify it by using FrontPage 2003, FrontPage 2003 creates a
down-level Vector Markup Language (VML) file for the quick launch toolbar. This
down-level VML file creates thicket files that cause the home page and the
thicket files to be dependent. Because FrontPage 2003 cannot perform a link fix
up operation against thicket files, FrontPage 2003 prevents you from renaming
the home page.
Use one of the following two methods to work around this
problem:
- Rename the home page by using the Save As option on the
File menu in FrontPage 2003.
-or- - In FrontPage 2003, enter the new name for the home page in
the File name box, and then click Save.
Note This procedure causes FrontPage to create new thicket files for
the home page.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
