Presence icon does not appear when you browse an Internet-hosted SharePoint Portal Server Web site
When you browse a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server
2003 Internet-hosted Web site, the
Presence icon only appears
if you rest on it.
The implementation of the Presence feature enables it to
work on intranet sites out of the box. If the SharePoint Portal Server site is
an Internet-hosted site, you must add the site to your Trusted Sites list in
Microsoft Internet Explorer for the pawn to appear without having to rest on
it.
To work around this problem, add the Internet Web site to
your Trusted Sites list. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet
Options.
- On the Security tab, click Trusted
Sites, and then click Sites.
- In the Add this Web site to the zone box,
type the http address, and then click Add.
Note You may have to click to clear the Require server
verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box to add an
http address.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
