Description of the behavior of the evaluation version of SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SUMMARY

This article discusses the behavior of the evaluation version of SharePoint Portal Server, describes what occurs when the evaluation period expires, and contains information about how to recover SharePoint Portal Server data after the evaluation period expires.

MORE INFORMATION

The evaluation version of SharePoint Portal Server has an evaluation period of 120 days. The evaluation period starts from the time you install the evaluation copy of SharePoint Portal Server on the server. After 120 days, SharePoint Portal Server data is no longer available and the following events are logged in the Application event log on the server:
Event Type: Error
Source: SharePoint Portal Search
Category: Gatherer

Description:
The evaluation period on this version of SharePoint Portal Server has expired.
Event Type: Error

You may also see events that are similar to the following in the Application event log:
Event Type: Error

The description for Event ID (2114) in Source (MSExchangeDSAccess) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: STORE.EXE, 1216, 80040a02.
Users who search for items on the portal site may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

To recover data from a server that is running an evaluation copy of SharePoint Portal Server that has expired, follow these steps:
  1. Change the date and time of the server that is running the evaluation copy of SharePoint Portal Server to a date that is within the 120-day evaluation period.
  2. Export the SharePoint Portal Server data that you want to recover to another server that is running SharePoint Portal Server.
