. An unextended Web server is a Web server that does not have
the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions installed. This article describes how
to publish a Microsoft Expression Web, Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, or Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Web to an unextended Web server by
using FTP. To publish files and folders in a Web site to a Web server
that supports FTP, open and then save a copy of the site to your computer, edit the
files and folders in that copy, and then publish the updated files and folders
to the server. Set the remote Web site propertiesExpression Web and SharePoint Designer 2007- On the File menu, click Publish
Site.
- On the Remote Web Site tab, under
Remote Web server type, click FTP.
- In the Remote Web site location box, type
the address of the remote Web site to which you want
to publish folders and files. Include the FTP protocol.
For example,
type ftp://example.com.
Or, click Browse,
and then locate the site. - If you want to view a specific folder when you connect to
the site, type the path of the
folder in the FTP directory box.
For example, type www/images. - Use one of the following procedures:
- Remove specific types of code from Web pages as they
are being published. To do this,
select the options that you want on the Optimize HTML tab.
- Change the default options for publishing. To do this, select the options that you want on
the Publishing tab.
- Click OK.
FrontPage 2003- On the View menu, click Remote Web
Site.
- At the top of the document window, click Remote Web
Site Properties.
- On the Remote Web Site tab, click FTP under
Remote Web server type.
- In the Remote Web site location box, type
the address of the remote Web site to which you want
to publish folders and files. Include the FTP protocol.
For example,
type ftp://example.com.
Or, click Browse,
and then locate the site. - If you want to view a specific folder when you connect to
the site, type the path of the
folder in the FTP directory box.
For example, type www/images. - If the server that hosts the remote Web site uses a
different port every time that you publish files and folders to the site, click
to select the Use Passive FTP check box.
- Use one of the following procedures:
- Remove specific types of code from Web pages as they
are being published. To do this,
select the options that you want on the Optimize HTML tab.
- Change the default options for publishing. To do this, select the options that you want on
the Publishing tab.
- Click OK.
Verify and add file name extensions to transfer as ASCII
Expression Web and SharePoint Designer 2007- On the Tools menu, click
Application Options.
- Click the FTP tab.
- If the file name extension for the type of file that you
plan to publish is not in the list, type
the file name extension under New Extension, and then click Add.
Note If the file name extension for a file type does not appear in the
list, Expression Web and SharePoint Designer 2007 publish files of that type in binary
format. FrontPage 2003- On the Tools menu, click
Options.
- Click the FTP tab.
- If the file name extension for the type of file that you
plan to publish is not in the list, type
the file name extension under New Extension, and then click Add.
Note If the file name extension for a file type does not appear in the
list, FrontPage 2003 publishes files of that type in binary
format. Mark files that you do not want to publishIn the Local Web site pane, right-click
each file that you do not want to publish, and then click Don't
Publish. Publish files and folders to a Web server that supports FTP- Under the Remote Web site pane, click Local to
remote under
Publish all changed pages.
- Click Publish Web site.
Note If you stop a publish operation that is in progress, files that have
already been published will remain on the remote Web site.
