Template Wizard Add-in May Cause Excel Macro to Run Slowly

SYMPTOMS

If you load the Template Wizard add-in and then you run a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro that makes changes to the cells in your Microsoft Excel workbook, the macro may run very slowly. You may also notice performance degradation when you enter data manually.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Template Wizard add-in contains a linked picture. Each time Excel recalculates or data is added to the workbook, the linked picture is updated. As a result, the operations described in the "Symptoms" section are affected.

Note Any workbook that contains a linked picture will exhibit the same behavior.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, unload or remove the Template Wizard add-in or remove the linked picture in the workbook. To unload the add-in, follow these steps:
  1. Start Excel.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
  3. In the Add-Ins dialog box, click to clear the Template Wizard with Data Tracking check box.
  4. Click OK to close the Add-Ins dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
