SUMMARY

Microsoft Photo Editor has been discontinued as a Microsoft Office component in Microsoft Office 2003 and in the 2007 Microsoft Office suites. A new component in the Office system is Microsoft Picture Manager. While Picture Manager is not primarily an image editor as Photo Editor was, it does have some image correction and editing features.

MORE INFORMATION

The following image editing features that were in Photo Editor do not have a corresponding equivalent feature in Picture Manager.

The following features that were available on the Effects menu in Photo Editor are not available in Picture Manager:

  • Emboss

Note In Microsoft Windows XP, the capability to create a new image from a scanner and a camera is built in to Microsoft Windows Explorer.

There are fewer color correction options available in Picture Manager than there were in Photo Editor. Specifically, there is not a Gamma adjustment or the ability to apply corrections to only one of the three color components of "red-green-blue (RGB)."

Properties

You cannot explicitly specify the image resolution dots per inch (dpi) or the color depth of images in Picture Manager.
