Error message when you import the results from a Survey page from a Windows SharePoint Services site into an Excel 2003 workbook
When you import the results from a Survey page in the *.iqy
file format from a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services site into a Microsoft
Office Excel 2003 workbook, you receive the following error message:
This list has hidden columns or read-only columns that
require data but for which no default value has been specified. Existing rows
in this list may therefore be edited, but new rows cannot be
inserted.
When you review the imported data, data that corresponds to
a ratings scale question is missing. Data that corresponds to multiple choice
questions appears in the following format:
Choice #1;#Choice #3
Each of the multiple choices that were selected by the respondent
is separated from the next choice by the ;# characters.
This problem occurs because of a limitation of the file
format that is used by Windows SharePoint Services to export the data from a
survey to Excel 2003.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
- Microsoft Office Excel 2003
- Microsoft Office Excel 2007

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
