Status Message 2349 Is Incorrectly Generated by a Windows Server 2003 Site
You may receive the following status message on a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 site server:
Status 2349
The WebDAV server extensions are disabled on SMS distribution point distribution point name. As a result, clients will not be able to use BITS support on the SMS distribution point. To enable BITS support, enable the WebDAV server extension from the Web Service Extensions node in the Internet Information Services (IIS) administrative tool.
This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
- The SMS site server is installed on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.
-and- - A Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) distribution point is installed on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer.
Status message 2349 is a new status message in SMS 2003. This message is generated only by Windows Server
2003-based SMS sites, and it is designed to notify an administrator when the WebDAV extensions are not installed on a Windows Server 2003 BITS distribution point.
A Windows Server 2003 SMS site server will always generate status message 2349 for any Windows 2000 Server distribution point that has BITS activated -- even for a distribution point that works correctly.
This message is generated when BITS is first activated under any of the following conditions:
- You first activate BITS on the distribution point.
- You perform an SMS site reset.
- You apply an SMS service pack.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
APPLIES TO
