Systems Management Server 2003 Inbox Manager Does Not Restart After You Upgrade SMS 2003
The Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Inbox Manager may not automatically restart after you upgrade SMS 2003 to a newer version.
This problem may occur if an open Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that is using the Services snap-in locks the service database during the upgrade.
To work around this problem, restart the computer or use the SMS Administrator Console to manually restart the Inbox Manager. To manually restart the Inbox Manager, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
- In the left pane of the SMS Administrator Console, expand Site Database, and then expand Tools.
- Right-click Service Manager, click All Tasks, and then click Start SMS Service Manager.
- In the left pane of the SMS Service Manager screen, expand SMS, expand Components, and then click SMS_INBOX_MANAGER.
- In the left pane of the SMS Service Manager screen, under Component Name, right-click SMS_INBOX_MANAGER, and then click Query.
- If the SMS_INBOX_MANAGER component is stopped, right-click SMS_INBOX_MANAGER, and then click Start.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
If the SMS bootstrap operation that restarts the SMS Inbox Manager component prematurely stopped, you receive the following error message in the SMS\Logs\Sitecomp.log file:
Could not deinstall existing service SMS_SERVER_BOOTSTRAP_S-R2. The operating system reported error 1072: The specified service has been marked for deletion.~~ $$<SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER><Fri Feb 07 12:05:54.021 2003 Pacific Standard Time><thread=1740 (0x6CC)>
