"Setup could not create or reset the server connection account in the domain" error message when you perform a site reset
When you try to perform a site reset after you upgrade your Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 primary site to SMS 2003, you may receive the following error message:
Setup could not create or reset the Server connection
account in the domain.
This problem may occur if the site server
connection account is not a member of the Domain Administrators group.
To work around this problem, use any one of the following methods:
- When you are prompted about whether you want to reset the site server connection account, click No.
- Add the SMS Service connection account to the Domain Administrators group while the site reset is
performed.
- Create a duplicate of the server connection account on the site server computer. Add the account to the
SMS_SiteSystemtoSiteServer security group.
- Create the Smsaccountsetup.ini file, and make sure that you provide the
name and the password of the server connection account in this file. SMS Setup will use the account information in this file when you perform a site reset.

didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're

edits), please consult a professional.
